This is the centenary year for the crossing of Australia from sea to sea. The Northern Territory is holding celebrations particularly associated with McDouall Stuart the famous South Australian explorer who was the first to cross from the waters to the south of Australia to those beyond Darwin. When he set out in March 1860 he took two companions and ten horses.
